Though not christened an 'official' affiliate of the Hazleton Philharmonic, several members of the quintet participate both in the Hazleton Philharmonic as well as St. Ann's Band of Freeland, PA.
They call themselves the 'Tin Roof Brass Band' and are often available to play local gigs, parties, and events.
The Tin Roof Brass Band is a lively brass quintet that specializes in performing Jazz, blues, swing, Dixie-land and pop tunes for any occasion.
The band is comprised of leader Frank Balon and Joe Chuckra on trumpet, Ken Wenner and Danny Balon on trombone, and Bob Lagana on tuba.
All members are long-time area musicians and appear in various different bands, ensembles, and orchestras in the Freeland-Hazleton Areas.
The Tin Roof Brass Band first performed together in December of 2012 at the famed Rosie's Taco Shop Friday Night Bash.
The band instantly clicked and formed a loyal and growing following. Throughout 2013, the band continued to expand it repertoire and playing experience.
Included were the dedication of the gazebo in Freeland's Martin's Square, a summer concert in Conyngham and a benefit concert in September dubbed "Music for Markers" when the band teamed up with the Tune Bandits to raise funds to help the Freeland VFW replace the stolen Veteran's grave markers.
Along with continuing to perform at the California Girls Boutique Friday Night Bashes, the band also performed at this year's Memorial Day Celebration in the Freeland Public Park, at area retirement homes and for several private parties.
The repertoire of the Tin Roof Brass Band includes such classic jazz/blues/Dixie-land tunes as Basin Street Blues, Muskrat Ramble, Just a Closer Walk With Thee, Sugar Blues, At the Woodchoppers Ball and When the Saints Go Marching In.
The band also enjoys playing sixties pop tunes including Tijuana Brass and the Beatles classics Penny Lane, Eleanor Rigby, Got To Get You Into My Life and Norwegian Wood. Other crowd favorites are the Theme from the Magnificent Seven and the Coldplay hit Viva La Vida.
Clips of the Tin Roof Brass Band can be found on Facebook and Youtube. If you are interested in booking the band for any occasion, please contact Frank Balon at 570-636-2800 or send him an email here at frankieb125@ptd.net
